Student Discipleship Minister Job Description


Purpose Statement:
Provide visionary leadership to the student ministry at Cy-Fair Christian Church within the church’s mission of “cultivating fully devoted disciples of Jesus.”

Position Summary:
The Student Discipleship Minister is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing an integrated and comprehensive strategy to cultivate fully devoted followers of Jesus among 6th through 12 grade students who are engaged in worship, stewardship, and relationships for the glory of God. The Student Discipleship Minister will develop relationships with the student’s parents as they seek to fulfill the church’s mission.

Reports to: Lead Pastor


  • Personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and a healthy family life

  • Passion for and experience in student discipleship ministry in the local church

  • Self-motivated leader of leaders, capable of casting and implementing a vision for ministry

  • Strong relational and communication skills with a passion to personally engage students, parents, staff, and volunteers

  • Possess basic administrative skills and is dedicated to programming excellence

  • Agreement with the church’s statement of belief and membership commitment

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Five or more years experience in student discipleship ministry

  • Additional experience might include: student ministry volunteer; school teacher or administrator; ministry experience such as Young Life, Campus Crusade for Christ or Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Core Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with all areas of discipleship so as to create a strategic and complementary vision

  • Recruiting, equipping and empowering volunteers to share in the discipleship of students

  • Create an environment for lasting and impactful relationships between volunteers and students

  • Partner with parents in the discipleship of their students

  • Regular communication and personal engagement with parents and volunteers about student ministry

  • Provide parents with learning opportunities to cultivate their parenting abilities

  • Provide opportunities for parent dialogue regarding the vision of the ministry

  • Participate in worship service as opportunities arise

  • Develop, manage, and implement discipleship curriculum for all environments in student ministry

  • Develop an annual calendar of strategic activities and programs for the purpose of discipleship

  • Manage and maintain all physical spaces and resources related to and used by student ministry

  • Create, manage, and maintain Student Ministry budget

  • Work in conjunction with the church as a whole

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend staff meetings, director meetings, and elders meetings as requested

  • Continue to grow and seek opportunities to develop leadership and ministry skills

  • Participate in various facets of the Sunday morning worship services

  • Serve in other roles as needed
